Mark Tran – Writer/Director:
Mark received his B.A. at San Jose State University’s Radio/TV/Film program. He has directed several short films as an undergrad, including the award-winning “The Fisherman’s Troubled Odyssey,” about his father’s immigration from Vietnam, and fan-favorite “Binary City,” an action-packed neo-noir film. He is the editor of independent feature film “College Radio Sucks,” and co-editor of “Generic Thriller,” and “Glory Boy Days.” His screenplay, “All About Dad,” was a finalist for the Harold Crain Dramatic Writing Award in Screenwriting.
Todd Banhazl - Cinematographer/DP:
Todd Banhazl has been filmmaking since he was 15 years old. His cinematography credits include the festival favorite Needle Anus, Binary City, and Trapped in the Attic, a short film that was selected as a Finalist in the Howard Stern Film Festival. Todd recently completed principal photography on the HD indie comedy College Radio Sucks and is in preproduction for the upcoming feature about the banality of youth, Glory Boy Days. Director Mark Tran and DP Todd Banhazl shot Binary City with the intent of creating a highly stylized cinematic experience with as little money as possible. Their creative relationship continues to flourish.
Tony Chung - “Tony Li”
Tony Chung was born in Texas, USA and later moved to San Jose, California where he is pursuing a Bachelor's of Electrical Engineering. From recording acoustic guitar tracks on a 4-track recorder in the 9th grade to performing in alternative rock bands in high school, Tony has been honing his drive for music songwriting and production for many years. Upon winning a Chinese music competiton in 2002, Tony began pursuing the art of pop and hip-hop production. His influences include Radiohead, The Beatles, John Lennon, Kanye West, and X Japan.
Binary City was his first acting gig.
Bobby August Jr. - “Eber Chang”
Bobby August has been acting in the Bay Area for the last few years. He has been a lead actor in several independent films including: Big Date, Visions, Phonebook, Trust Me, and Binary City. Most recently he starred in the comedic feature College Radio Sucks. Bobby is probably best known for his portrayal of “The Snail” in last year’s Bay to Breakers commercials.
In addition to film, Bobby loves to act in productions of live theater. He just recently finished performing in his first written piece, Relationships, as part of the Pan Theater Ten Minute play festival in San Francisco. Currently, he is living out one of his dreams as an actor by playing Romeo in a touring production of Romeo and Juliet.
Bobby also does professional improvisational acting. He performs nearly every weekend in San Jose as a member of the ComedySportz Improv team. He also performs in San Francisco with the Pan Theater troupe.
Bobby is thrilled to be a part of Binary City. He would especially like to give Mark and Todd much love and thanks for all of their support, passion, creativity, and hard work in bringing this project to fruition.
Stuart Mahoney - “Larry”
Stuart Mahoney is a visual and performing artist from San Jose, CA. A graduate from San Jose State University with a bachelors in Fine Art and a minor in Acting, Stuart continually seeks opportunities to use his acting, painting, and singing talents to elevate mood and inspire creativity.
